Finkle Hill Dental Care – A dentist’s studio to smile about
What the client wanted
Our client wanted to expand its existing first-floor dental practice into the ground floor units below. The newly available ground floor space presented the opportunity to create a welcoming shop front with a high street presence.
The aspiration was a ‘high-end’ dental practice that matched Finkle Hill Dental’s strong reputation in the local area and allowed them to move towards the dental aesthetic market. They were keen to create a location with a calming atmosphere that felt more like a spa than a typical dental surgery.
Our idea
Our thinking initially revolved around how the existing pizza takeaway and kebab shop could be converted into an easily accessible and welcoming dental practice. With the current dental surgery located on a first floor, the practice could not accommodate people with limited mobility.
We also wanted to maximise the potential of the dental practice occupying a ground floor unit by creating a new shop frontage that promoted a sense of boutique dental care that attracted new clientele to the surgery. This was achieved through the use of minimalist design that revolved around clean-lines, natural materials and maximising natural light.
The details
Mesh was appointed by Finkle Hill Dental Care to manage the transformation of the dental practice from feasibility designs to completion on site. Mesh’s role involved;
- Improve accessibility to the dental practice through the introduction of an accessible WC, ramped access to the front door and dental surgeries on the ground floor.
- Manage the planning application process for both the change of use and for the re-designed shop frontage.
- Produced detailed information which allowed the main contractor to co-ordinate the build process once on site.
- Worked collaboratively with interior design studio, DCTwo and graphic designers, Picture Smiths, to create a space which aligned with the updated brand identity.
- Project planning that allowed the existing first floor dental practice to remain operational throughout the construction works.

"When the opportunity to expand our dental practice arose, the first people we turned to were Mesh. Having developed a fantastic relationship with them through work on our home, I knew immediately they would be the best team to guide us through a very different commercial venture.
We wanted to transform two very dilapidated takeaways into a contemporary boutique dental practice, which required some vision! They also had to learn the ebb and flow of a dental practice - where we needed space and pinch points for our team and patients.
With their guidance and the support of a QS, we were able to come up with a design approach and costed business plan which the bank was happy to support.
From then on, I have to say, it was pretty much all plain sailing. Mesh worked seamlessly with our builders and design team, quickly solving any problems when they emerged. Planning was relatively simple and didn't take too long. The outcome speaks for itself. We've transformed our corner of the high street, encouraged others to follow suit and have a dental practice that rivals the best out there. Without any marketing, we've doubled the number of new patients who come to us monthly and the feedback is consistent - it doesn't feel like a dental practice, but somewhere patients want to visit. Needless to say, I can't recommend Mesh and the team highly enough."
